In today’s discussion, Lisa Wood and I talk shop about websites, WordPress, and what keeps people from getting started. We’ve both seen so many brilliant ideas and people get stuck when it comes time to creating a website, and it’s a shame, because websites don’t have to be overwhelming.
Here are some of the things we cover in this discussion:
- Whether every business needs a website
- The difference between a blog and a website
- What really keeps people from getting started with a website (psst – it’s not about the tech)
Lisa is going to be teaching a class called WordPress Without Overwhelm starting on Wednesday, January 30th. At the end of this 5-week course, participants will walk away with a WordPress website that they know how to use and update. Lisa has a knack at demystifying tech for creative people, so if you’ve wanted to start your own blog or website and have been overwhelmed by the whole process, this is a great opportunity for you. (You do not have to be tech savvy to join and benefit from this course.)
Rather than going the affiliate route, Lisa agreed to give a PF-exclusive discount of $100 off the course. I want you to start doing something with those ideas you have, and if starting a website has been a huge hurdle for you, then we’ve got you covered. Use the code “PROFLO” (without the quotes) in the cart to claim your discount. The last day to register is Monday, the 28th.

Thanks for the interesting discussion to listen to this morning. I especially enjoyed the section about being the type of person who likes to tinker with things. Luckily, the sites I work with are my small personal sites or for small organizations. So I can tinker without really messing anything up. I am still shocked at the number of small organizations that I deal with today that have no website or horribly outdated websites. Makes a huge impact on my opinion about that group.
Hi Jon – yes, there are lots of small businesses in that situation – or their website is built with a free (or cheap) builder-type service that they’re then locked into. We can all help by educating people and offering real solutions. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 🙂
Lisa is an amazing teacher and knows her stuff! I have been to a number of classes with her locally and I am looking forward to learning even more about WordPress with this class. I work with a lot of creatives that want an affordable solution for websites/blogs and this DIY class is perfect for those people who like to know what is going on behind the scenes AND can get their first site up!
