To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, ’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish’d. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub…
William Shakespeare, Hamlet
If you’ve read enough, stop reading. If you’ve said your peace, stop talking.
Let go of the idea that you’re as important to other people as you are to yourself. (Tweet this)
If the shoe fits, wear it. Or don’t.
Never attribute to malice what ignorance will explain.
Take the good and useful; leave the rest.
Consider the source.
It’ll be okay. In a few months, things will be calmer and you’ll laugh at why you’re so attached to things now.
People will love and help you if you give them a chance.
The way you perceive the world may be completely different than the way the world is.
Looking inward can be hard. Careful that you don’t use other people’s eyes when you do.
Your actions matter. What you do going forward is more important than what you’ve done in the past, and you are not your past.
Loud inside, quiet outside; quiet inside, loud outside.
The world will always begin at your feet. Get to steppin’.
I loved this post Charlie. Every single point was right on. Sometimes it’s so easy to just get caught up in the “everything” & “nothing” in life. Stopping, starting, looking out, looking in, forgetting, moving forward –> all so important. Thank you.
Thanks, Jen – I’m glad you liked it!
Wow, that was quite different from your other posts but pretty insightful.
I’ll have to read it again in a few months… years… and remember my frame of mind and thoughts of the present day.
Thanks Charlie!
Yeah, I can be a bit of a walking box of Crackerjacks – you never know what you’re going to get. I just hope that it’s worth opening the box most of the time. ;p
Love this post. So many great reminders about treating ourselves with compassion and moving forward with our lives even when things are tough. Beautiful, thanks.
It’s so easy to forget that with all of the suggestions to love people, sometimes the person you most need to give love to is yourself. Especially when times are tough. Thanks for the feedback!
I was just saying to a friend how I’ve really started to notice a week or 2 down the road how little something I was so worked up about earlier really mattered.
That one realization has really allowed me to let go of a LOT of things, and life is quite a bit calmer for it.
Great post Charlie.
lovely manifesto.
My favourite bit is:
Looking inward can be hard. Careful that you don’t use other people’s eyes when you do.
I’m going to adopt it.
Thanks, Charlie for this post of wisdom.
Charlie, you are a true poet. This post has come at a really important time for me….like it was written specifically for my eyes to read. Can’t thank you enough. I feel stronger now 🙂
Thank you for writing this post just for me! It’s a gem.
