I don’t yet have words about the Roe v. Wade ruling on Friday, so emoji will have to do: 😱🤬🖕🏽👺💪🏽✊🏽❤️
Actually, that’s not true. I have about fourteen essays in me, with little time and less energy to share them all. Instead, I’ve been reaching out to my sisters and nieces who the decision most affects since that’s needed more than more essays written by yet another man.
If I may, though, I’ll nudge the reminder that anything that takes time, energy, and attention is a project. Reeling, organizing, and marching are all emergent projects, meaning that they will displace other projects you had planned.
They’re all distinct projects, too, in that you may do one but not the others.
Lastly, even if the decision is in line with your values or you’re an international reader, the fact that others are reeling, organizing, and marching will affect your conversations and projects. It could be as simple as the powerhouse executive who needs to sign off on your project being slower to sign off on your thing as she processes what’s going on. Or customers who aren’t in a buying mood and may instead be in a biting mood.
Plato is misattributed with the saying “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” (It was actually Ian McLaren.)
Right now, many women are fighting a hard battle. For many, it’s currently an inner private battle, torn and twisted in the many ways that only women know.
Please be kind. You’ve no doubt surmised that I most mean to be kind to yourself.
And we know how hard of a project that is. ❤️
