This is so helpful! And I forwarded it to five people I thought would think so, too. BTW, I return to "Start Finishing" over and over for periodic kicks in the butt and inspiration. Thanks, so much for the many great insights and mind hacks.

You're absolutely right! Our brains are wired to keep tabs on unfinished business, a phenomenon often called the Zeigarnik effect. This natural tendency means that uncompleted tasks or unresolved issues stick in our minds more persistently than completed ones. While this can be a powerful motivator, it can also lead to overwhelm and mental drain if not managed effectively. https://www.mybalancenow.it.com

This was such a powerful read. Thank you, Charlie. As someone who works in the space of mindful productivity, I see the Zeigarnik Effect play out daily—not just in task management but in emotional energy. What really resonated was the idea that open loops aren’t just cognitive clutter; they’re emotional weight. I’ve found that intentional reflection and loop-closing rituals, like journaling or end-of-day resets, can shift that weight significantly. It’s not about doing more. It’s about creating space to be present and focused. I appreciate how clearly you brought that to light.

Thank you 🌻 the tools you share Charlie help me a lot, and by extension those with whom I work. It prompted a reflection thanks to which: I am beginning to notice how these small, consistent changes help, even though I stumble again and again. Funnily, having an open loop of the need to close the loops is the benefit of Zeigarnik Effect - time to find a permanent home for that in the plan ☺️
