You Are Doing So Well
There are times when all I really need is for someone to tell me: “You are doing so well.”
Some of you may need that, too. I’d like to be the one to tell you today: You, dear soul, are doing so well.
It’s true that I don’t know your exact story, nor do I know what all you have done today or in the last week or the last month. That’s not what matters, though.
What I do know is that as part of this PF community you are dedicated to your growth and that it’s integrous for you to be a positive difference in this world. I also believe that each of us is doing our best. And, for all of that, you are doing SO WELL.
Our “best” is not always the objective definition of good, great, or well. But, our best is what we are able to do and be with what we have and where we are in that time. Our best looks different from day to day and that is OK.
Many of us have felt “not at our best” a lot lately. That’s not what shows me that you are doing so well. It’s that you continue to show up day after day in the best way you are able at that time.
In doing so well, it’s not actually just about the doing, it’s about the being. Every one of us has moments when the only thing we feel able to do that day is get out of bed, and some days even that may be more than is possible. That doesn’t make you any less. That is showing your care and knowledge of yourself — and that is damn good. You are doing so well.
Many of us may feel like we’ve dropped a lot of balls lately, or that we haven’t been able to be all the things to our friends or family or community that we would like to be. You’re in good company. That also doesn’t tell me that you are not doing well. That tells me that you have limits and boundaries and are paying attention to what is currently possible for you. You are doing so well.
You are showing up the best you can at any given time and that means you are doing so well. Despite global pandemics and uprisings and the energetic drains that you may be facing day to day, you continue to show up.
To do and be well is not about you perfectly finishing that work project, nor is about you making a healthy dinner for your family every evening, nor is it about you showing up with a smile everywhere you go, nor is it about you getting that promotion on time, nor is it about having a clean and tidy home.
You are doing so well because you continue to show up and grow. Nothing more is necessary.
You, dear soul, are doing so well.
