Since the title of this post already tells you what’s coming, let’s not dilly dally - you can download the sample chapters of Team Habits below:
My original plan was to pull out sections across the book so a) you got a good feel for what the content would be across the book and b) I could pull out some of the gems. That got unwieldy and pushed up against how much content from the manuscript I was allowed to share, and it turns out, the simpler answer of sharing Chapter 1 and Chapter 9 was also the better option.
Chapter 9 is about team meeting habits. It presented itself as the obvious choice for the chapter because it’s probably the single best chapter that’s self-contained and meets so many of us in teams right where we are. While I originally wanted to rebel against the obviousness of it, the utility of the chapter by itself and how I’ll be able to weave it into our conversations here easily won the day.
As you’re starting to ramp up to “Back to Work” from the summer, I hope the insights in Chapter 9 help you have fewer crutch meetings and more meetings that you’re glad you went to and/or facilitated.
A Few Other Team Habits Announcements
There have been some cool happenings with Team Habits over the last few months that I’ve shared on LinkedIn, but I’m still figuring out how to weave that into this publication. I’ll take a second to catch you up here:
Seth Godin and I jammed about Team Habits on a LinkedIn Live. I’ve gotten a lot of feedback about the conversation, especially the end.
Team Habits was selected as a must-read by the Next Big Idea Book Club. When I wrote Start Finishing, I thought “How cool would it be for my book to be featured by the Next Big Idea Book Club?!” It never happened for Start Finishing, but it happened on its own with Team Habits. (Awesome!)
We’ve had six foreign rights acquisitions for Team Habits before pub. The book will reach readers in Chinese, UK/International English (India, Australia, etc.), Spanish, French, Serbian, and now Portuguese. I’m excited that Team Habits could start an international conversation about how we can make work better together, with our teams, where we are.
Thanks to those of you who’ve been spreading the news about Team Habits and sharing your excitement about it with me behind the scenes.
I’m hopeful that I’ve finally gotten enough logjammed projects completed that I can start sharing more here.🤞🏽🎉❤️
