Pulse Special Edition: The Return of the Pulse
And how to choose the content that's right for you
It’s been a few weeks since a Pulse found its way to your inbox (and for some of you, it might be your first time, so welcome!).
If you’re new to us, the Pulse is a weekly digest newsletter that we send to keep our community up-to-date with what’s going on. You can expect it every Tuesday.
It’s a mix of:
new posts and curated evergreen content that’s especially relevant for where we are in the year.
updates about new or improved products and experiences.
highlights of what community members are doing and sharing.
a rollup of features, interviews, and other events that I’m a part of that may not show up in posts.
It’s less important for us at PF to always be making new content than to focus on making sure you’re getting resources that you meet you where you are.
Where the Pulse Has Been
Behind the scenes at Productive Flourishing, October was migration month: moving most of Productive Flourishing here to Substack at the same time that we stood up CharlieGilkey.com for assets that were a better fit there. I’ll have more to say about the whys and hows of the Substack move in a future post here in the Pulse or on PF but suffice to say it was a project to move all of you and all of the content over to the new platform.
It hasn’t been without its challenges (tool migrations always have surprises, unforeseen hiccups, and issues), but it’s had its positives, too — chiefly that it’s been one of the smoothest the team and I have experienced, and that it’s felt like with Substack we’ve come home and found a new place for PF for the future.
During that transition, we paused this Pulse for a few weeks to focus on all the other tasks and to figure out if and how the Pulse would fit into the new model.
To start, we’ve subscribed everyone to the Pulse. I encourage you to stick with it for a couple weeks and see if it serves you. If you find it doesn’t, please let us know why, and what might serve you better.
The good news is that the Substack platform makes it easy for you to unsubscribe if you don’t want it. And if you just want to get the Pulse, and don’t want to receive emails when I post something new on Productive Flourishing, you can do that, too.
How to Manage Your Subscriptions to Productive Flourishing and the Pulse
A free subscription to Productive Flourishing includes two things:
An email every time we publish something new to Productive Flourishing.
This weekly newsletter, the Pulse.
By default, you get both: a just-in-time notification about brand new content, and a once-a-week, curated newsletter delivering the best of our (and others’) content.
If you don’t want both, it’s easy to change your preferences.
Go to your Substack profile (click your image in the top right).
Select “Settings” from the menu.
Scroll down to Subscriptions, and find Productive Flourishing.
Click the arrow to the right to access the PF subscription page.
Now you have a decision to make:
If you want the just-in-time emails but no Pulse, toggle off the switch next to The Pulse (weekly newsletter).
If you want just the weekly Pulse and no just-in-time emails, toggle off the switch next to Productive Flourishing, but make sure the Pulse box stays toggled on. You’ll get this weekly roundup only.
That’s it! You’re all set with whichever configuration of Productive Flourishing best suits you. Thanks for being a subscriber!
