Each of us has 24 hours per day and it’s common for people to feel like they don’t have enough time to take meaningful action on the stuff that matters. Most of the time, that’s untrue; it’s how people feel about their time and how they use it that really makes the difference.
It turns out that feeling awe makes us feel like we have more time. Melanie Rudd‘s great 3-minute video explains more. It’s worth getting your headphones and watching:
Hat tip to Dan Pink’s The Secret to Feeling Like You Have More Time.
What helps you feel like you have more time?
I always feel like I have more time if I wake up early. If I stay on my schedule and stay organized I feel like I have more time in the day too.
The ‘perceptual vastness’ hit home with me a lot more than the concept of awe. Typically I feel more time affluent if my day is open ended. It I’m boxed in with meetings and calls, I have to budget my time carefully, and budgeting is kind of the opposite of affluent. So my answer to that is to preserve at least two days a week where I have no calls or meetings.
