Editor’s Note: This is a continuation of our core conversation, “Great Connections Lead To Great Ideas.” Yesterday, Seth Godin showed how the magic is in the space between conversations. Today, Carol Roth shows how great minds often don’t think alike.

Great conversations often lead to even greater inspirations and movement.
Thanks Carol for sharing your experience. How have you maintained staying in the midst of people that challenge and inspire?
And as a fellow linear thinker, Liz has thrown me for a loop a time or two with her lefthand turns in thinking and conversation. In the best way! 😉
Adam, thanks for the comment.
In terms of staying in the midst, I am always looking for opportunities to be helpful when possible and to connect others. That usually puts me somewhere near the fray!
Glad to hear that you have had the pleasure of a Liz loop as well…
a fantastic story! I love hearing about how you learned to see the “yin” in Liz’s thinking style – “add all of the value in the world” it reminds me to look outside my usual suspects for insight – thanks!
Hi Jen,
Thanks for your comments. Yes, if I had been my normal closed minded self, I would have missed out on one of the most spectacular people in the world!
Carol,
Thank you for your contribution: I appreciate your ideas.
I think it is necessary to seek out ideas which are different from your own. If you never leave your comfort zone, there is a tendency to stagnate.
Yes, great minds don’t always think alike. So, it is necessary to listen with empathy to different ideas from different people. This mindset is very different from just copying ideass from other people. We need to have a sense of exploration and wonder in our eyes to come up with unique solutions. That pioneering spirit is sadly lacking in today’s world.
Cheers.
Hi Archan
That’s a great point. It’s true that copying is a waste of time, but letting an idea inspire and inform you and go to the next level is truly worthwhile.
Carol,
You are quality people. My thinking, my life, and all I do are enhanced because I have your friendship and counsel in my life. Thanks for telling our story so well. 🙂
I am just as grateful for you in my life and so glad that you suggested that in person meeting 🙂
xo
Carol, I love Liz’s way of tapping into circular thinking and still connecting with linear thinkers/thinking at will…a great example of versatility. I too enjoy the depth of “circular” integrative being/thinking. Of course, you are obviously a great mind yourself for seizing an opportunity to grow and expand your perspective of life. Only being open to linear logic blocks creativity/innovation, collaboration, (and other things) and, in these changing times of ours, it also blocks a critical skill set – adaptability. Kudos to you!
