Are You Modeling Your Message?

By Charlie Gilkey on March 18, 2011 5 Comments

I’ve been thinking a lot about practice, modeling, and leadership. Today’s short video is about modeling your message in your life and business or career.

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a video post, despite all the good intentions. Maybe it’s fitting that I’m modeling showing up again all rusty. 🙂

You got me thinking about the concept of leadership — that we need to apply it to ourselves (“You are leading yourself”).

I’ve heard the beautiful poem Invictus so many times (“I am the master of my fate/I am the captain of my soul”), but seldom took it to heart. As a new blogger, I often find myself being lead around by other bloggers’ goals (and goal-making in general)!

Thank, Charlie, for this reminder to be the person I look up to! P.S. I love that you’re modeling your message on your T-shirt, very chic!

I like the video blog idea, I may have to create some in the future. Video definitely allows your readers to get a better idea about you.

    Charlie,
Thanks for covering this topic. I agree 100%. I have heard it called “eating your own dog food” and it has stuck with me. When you don’t model your own message, you are quickly exposed as a phony.

Thanks for doing this video post Charlie!

    Hi Charlie,
This was a timely message for me, since I generally regard myself as a good collaborator and lifelong learner. I’ve been realizing two things lately…One is that I’m nice until I get frustrated, then I can be very tense and impatient, even grumpy. I’m very uncomfortable in a learning role rather than one where I have mastered the learning, but the tension and impatience make me a poorer learner. The other is seeing that some self-care choices I make are really self-sabotage. If I stay up too late and get too little sleep, I don’t do as well as I might otherwise at my new endeavor. Aligning intention and action is always the challenge, eh?
