[...] Talking to an upset friend for two hours on the phone might derail your plans to compose a new piece of music, but it could benefit that one person far more than any other actions you could take during the day. Putting your post-graduate coursework aside to bake cookies with your three-year-old might seem a waste of an afternoon, but again, it could mean a huge amount to your child. It can be hard to tell, in the heat of the moment, what will make the biggest difference. [...]

@Christy: Glad it hit at the right time.

@PositivelyPresent: Being prone to pontificate, it's always nice to see that occasionally short posts can cause as much, if not more, thought than longer ones.

@Dawn: Thanks! This is your first comment here, no?

@Karl: The yes technique is powerful, indeed. Another one: allowing yourself to see what you do before you decide what you do with it. Both come to the same point - live in possibilities rather than impossibilities, and you'll find yourself able to do things you never thought possible.

@Mynde: Thanks for acknowledging that and giving me a space to play with my writing. It helps - but you already knew that, didn't you, Ms. Mayfield?

@Malcolm: I had a hard time with that paragraph, actually. It didn't quite fit, but it yelled to be included. Sometimes you just gotta keep the groove going. I'm glad you liked it.

Wow. That's awesome. I especially like this part:

Changing is the easiest thing in the world to do,
and the hardest thing in the world to do.
It’s the easiest because it’s impossible not to do.
It’s the hardest because it’s the task we will never finish.

...because it's just so true.

Love the poetry feel to this post. The biggest internal change I've made within myself is the "Yes, and" technique. This is learning to say yes and building upon my present idea. I used to shoot down lots of my ideas before they got off the ground. Now I keep working with them and flushing out the beauty. It takes more of my time, but my blog posts and over all creativity are much deeper.
