Last Thursday, Jen Louden and I jumped on Skype to record a conversation about how taking time for comfort and relaxation is just as important as all the other direct work you might be doing on stuff. At least, that’s what we thought we were going to talk about.

Here’s the thing you have to know about me and conversations: they always go “off topic.” This is good for people who love conversations and terrible for people who are trying to figure out the best way to explain what we’re talking about.

That said, we ended up talking about the nature of creativity, sustainable productivity, and self-trust, among other things. If you’ve listened to the the version up on Jen’s site, you might want to listen to this one, too – this is the uncut version.

In true “watch me mess up” fashion, I wanted to share the full thing with you. I didn’t have my recording software configured correctly, so even though this is a video chat, the recording quality is so bad that it’s more distracting to watch than anything. The fact that I was recording a video introduced some jitter, and I also didn’t set my headset in the right position to get rid of the pops. #golfclap Good one, chap! Bravo! #golfclap

Despite the technological FAILs, there’s enough good stuff here I still thought you’d like to hear. The audio runs about 24 minutes.

Good Stuff You Should Know About

In the end, we end up talking about Jen’s Virtual Retreat. You can check out that link for more information, but if you’re needing a mid-February staycation, you’ll want to check it out. If your January was anything like mine, it’s a great time to catch up with yourself.

As if hanging out with Jen wasn’t enough of a good time, she has 13 other folks there to help you recharge and get back in touch with yourself – and two of those people are my friend-teachers Hiro and Fabeku. (The Soul Sister and Sound Ninja together?! Yep. Sign me up, please!)

The Early Bird Special for the Virtual Retreat ends on February 8th, and until then you can get a weekend of relaxation and reconnection for $108. Head on over to the Virtual Retreat page to check it out.

Great conversation. I always discuss the importance of relaxation and leisure on my blog. It is so crucial for our mental health and keeping our cognitive abilities fresh. In many ways, I consider myself the King of relaxation. It gets to a point where people think I am lazy and worthless, but I see it as a very important aspect of my productivity. And, to be honest, I think I get a lot more done than the person with a 9-5 who stresses over every little thing on their to-do list.
