It's okay to vary your style, too. I've been published in academic journals and newspapers -- I write more formally and modestly for the journals. When you're starting out, it's alright to have a personal blog to find out what you like to write about. I've written on my personal blog about a wide spectrum of subjects -- public speaking, multi-monitors, volunteering, etc. I'll see what themes emerge over time, and then maybe I'll start a new blog devoted to a particular theme. Best wishes to everyone as we develop ourselves and our writing. Developing your style and voice is definitely an iterative process.
