@Diana: I get what you're saying about the productivity blogs - in many ways, that's why I started this one. But the best advice I can give right now is Anne Lamont's: pick a bird. Driving something to completion, even if it's not what you're "supposed" to be doing, is always better than spinning in circles, especially since creatives create more circles as we're spinning.

I am with you Diana!
I definitely have trouble following my own plans and making my ideas come to life!
(I get it from my very creative, dreamer Father)
I am sure to get things done, but it is never what I planned. It is like I am being defiant to myself...saying "Well YOU are not going to tell ME what to do either!"

I am definitely overwhelmed and many times can't decide where to start.
That is where my DH comes in...He is a DOer if there ever was one! So he grabs me by the arm and pulls me into his Just DO it! mentality. Then we can really make progress...Hopefully he will continue to influence me and I can find a nice balance.

Flylady says we are just Sidetracked, and reminds us that we can do anything for 15 minutes. I try to remember that when I am struggling...even though I know I can't get it done in 15 minutes, I can atleast work on it for 15...I set my timer and get to work. It is very liberating because I don't feel the pressure of Hurry-Up-have-to-get-it-all-done! but I do end up making alot of progress.

Here's to my husband & Flylady! They Rock!

Okay...it's obvious I'm a dreamer because I "have trouble following their own plans and making their ideas come to life."

So, please, tell me, what do I do about that?! LOL Been daydreaming since my early school days. Not that I didn't do well in school, but my daydreams are like my real life. Now that I'm working without the whip I can get very, very scattered! I read all these blogs about productivity. They don't seem suited for my personality type. I'm not lazy, I'm...hmm...maybe overwhelmed with dreams?

Charlie,

A really interesting way to look at personality. As a writer, I'm definitely a dreamer -- even the plots and genres I choose show that. But I think I have exceptional skill as a reviewer (I just edited/copyedited another's book for the first time and have done a tremendous job so far) and a doer in different aspects.

It's also interesting how the three play off of one another. Some doers do need to have a dreamer element to them in order to come up with unusual solutions. It's one thing to be in data entry, another to be a creative, and a weird sort of hybrid to be, say, a personal assistant.

I'm probably a reviewer and dreamer, then doer.

Remembering that "just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean you should keep doing it" is so important. You can very easily get into an unhappy rut that way - and have no idea what the problem is!

Charlie, very insightful! I'm a dreamer, but I can be the others sometimes. I like this advice:

"It’s Best to Align Your Activities With Your Preferences"

Aligning your activities with your preferences and with your values, WILL make all the difference in your life.
